유년 시절에 이미 피아노와 기타 연주에 천부적인 재능을 보이며
그녀를 가르치던 여러 선생들을 능가했다고 합니다.

특히, 청음감각을 비롯한 ....음에 대한 이해에 있어서는
타의 추종을 불허 했었다고 알려지고 있고,

일단 귀로 한번 들었던 음악은
그 자리에서 우습게 재현해 내곤 했다고 합니다.

그러나 연주인이 아닌 ...
하나의 포크 싱어로서 두각을 나타내기 시작한 것은
60년대 초반의 일입니다.
.
당시 그녀가 즐겨 부르던 레퍼터리는...
.
미국 포크 싱어나 송라이터들의 곡과
영국의 트래디셔널 넘버들이 주류를 이루고 있었습니다.
.
BBC 라디오의 오디션에 합격한 이후,
Saga Records와 계약을 맺은 데니는
자니 실보(Johnny Silvo)와의 공동작인  'Sandy and Johnny' 를 비롯해서
.
알렉스 캠벨(Alex Campbell)의
Alex Campbell and His Friends 앨범에 참여하는 등,
순탄한 초기 시절을 영위하기 시작합니다
.
그리고 당시 그녀의 재능을 ...동질적인 의미에서 발견한 사람은
다름 아닌 데이브 커즌즈(Dave Cousins)였다고 합니다
.
이렇게 해서 브리티쉬 포크의 명반이자,
.
스트롭스(STRAWBS)의 데뷔작으로 공개된 앨범이 바로
'Sandy Denny and The Strawbs '였습니다.
( 이 음반은 70년 녹음된 이후...
  소속사Island, A&M과 대행사 PickWick의 분쟁으로 인한 
  갖은 우여곡절 끝에 
  1973년 군소 레이블인 Hallmark Records에 의해
  뒤늦게 발매 될수있었습니다 )

데니가 페어포트 계보에서 핵심적인 인물 이기는 했지만,
솔로로서 보여준 그녀의 역량 역시

브리티쉬 트래디셔널 록의 신화 위에
사 반세기 이상 군림해 왔습니다.

그녀의 솔로 앨범들을 한마디로 표현 하자면
'포크에 대한 진실한 사랑' 바로 그것 일겁니다.

특히 71년작인 'The North See Grass Man and The Ravens' 는,
데니의 천부성을 실감할수있는
희대의 포크 명반이라고 할 수 있을겁니다.

데니는 또한 이 음반의 녹음을 끝 마친 이후,
.
Led Zeppelin의 4집 ('Stairway to Heaven' 이 담겨있어 유명한)
앨범에 참여하여 Robert Plant 와 < Battle Of Evermore > 를
듀엣으로 레코딩한 것으로도 유명하며,

브리티쉬 록계의 거물급 스타들과 함께
사운드 트랙 < Tommy >에서 작업 하기도 했습니다.
.
하지만 , 브리티쉬 포크의 중추적 존재였던 샌디 데니의 생애는
예기치 못했던 추락사로 막을 내리고 말았습다.
.
당시 그녀에게는
루카스와의 사이에서 생긴 한살 난 딸과
.
유작 'Rendezvous' 에서 얻어진
솔로로서의 밝은 미래가 놓여져 있었다고 합니다.
.
그리고 그녀의 죽음과 함께
브리티쉬 트래디셔널 포크의 찬연한 역사도
사실상 종지부를 고 하고 말았습니다.

바로 잔인한 4월( 21 April, 1978 ) 의 일 이었습니다.
